This course is directed towards members of the teaching profession and other related professions who work with children in school settings and wish to improve their understanding of mental health issues, particularly the environmental, social and emotional factors which influence the mental development of children and adolescents. The course also provides practical information on how to use this theoretical understanding productively in classroom and school settings. The course acknowledges and supports the central role of the teacher in the development of optimum mental health in the school population.
Recognised as a suitable course for Professional Development by the Victorian State Department of Education, Employment and Training (DEET).
Applicants
should have a minimum three-year undergraduate qualification, preferably in the
field of education.
MHT0001 is available as a stand-alone 12-credit-point, postgraduate unit.
Access to a PC and the internet.
Optional on-campus introductory session at the commencement of the course.
The course will be conducted over one year, part-time and comprises the following core units:
Assessment consists of three written assignments and group participation.
Advanced standing for MHT0001 will be considered upon application.
