WMN2150Consuming Otherness: Gender and Global Culture(ART)
Jane Maree Maher 6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prohibited combinations: WMN3150 Synopsis: This subject will examine the impact of globalisation from a feminist perspective and consider how the expansion of media and communication technologies has impacted on Western views of developing nations and cultures. Cross-cultural exchanges and borrowings will be critically examined and read in both Australian and localised contexts through a variety of films, literary texts and critical material. Students will be encouraged to consider how global structures of communication and representation extend and/or resist discourses of colonialism. Assessment: Research task (3000 words): 60% + Class Test (1.5 hours, equiv 1,500 words): 30% + Seminar participation: 10% |
