VSA3020From Film Theory to Video Practice(ART)
David Hanan 6 points + 4 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: A sub-major in Visual Culture or Performing Arts, and including the subject VSA2190, or with permission from Head of School Synopsis: Subject is designed to complement existing theoretical, critical and historical subjects in Film and TV. Course culminates in groups producing videos as a part of their assessment, and focuses on planning a production, its aims and how to bring them about. Time is devoted to looking at a range of videos/short films in order to think through a production's rationale and theoretical relevance. Students are expected to attain a basic competence in most of aspects of video filming, together with a knowledge of operating computer-based digital video-editing systems. Students will be given a clear time frame for shooting and editing their final group videos, as amount of equipment is limited. Assessment: Equipment proficiency test: 10% + Short script and/or story board (2250 words): 50% + Group production: 40% |
