Dr Ian Crosby 55 lectures, 26 tutorials and 39 hours practical work Synopsis: Chemical structure, bonding and shape. Bioinorganic chemistry. Spectroscopy and pharmaceutical analysis. Introduction to organic chemistry. Classes, functional groups and reactivity of drugs. Alkanes, stereochemistry, optical activity. Alkenes, aromatics, halides, alcohols, phenols, carbonyls, carboxylic acids and derivatives. Amines, amino acids, sulfur compounds. Introduction to medicinal chemistry. Assessment: Progress examination (May) (1.5 hours): 10% + Practical work and other tests: 20% + End-of-year examination (3 hours): 70% |
