VAM4120Australian film history(ART) Proposed to be offered next in 2002 Deane Williams 12 points + 4 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisite: Normally two subjects at second-year level in visual arts, comparative literature and cultural studies or history Synopsis: Historical representations of landscape, race and gender relations in Australian film. Notions of the representation of history in film. The history of Australian film production with attention to some examples of industry, independent production and government film production. Films studied include mainstream narrative, government sponsored documentary and newsreel as well as independent productions across the range of Australian film production. Assessment: Seminar paper (2500) words: 25% + Essay (2500 words): 35% + Essay (4000 words): 40% |
