TRS1200The Tourist Experience(ART)
Graeme Davison 6 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Berwick Synopsis: Beginning with a consideration of the primary elements of the tourist experience - the site, the itinerary, the guidebook and the tourist - this course proceeds to give closer attention to the processes of communication and interpretation. It studies the relationships between the tourist and both natural and historic environments, and examines the impact of tourism on indigenous cultures. The lecture and tutorial program is designed around case-studies, with a particular emphasis on international tourist locales. Students will be introduced to basic skills in heritage and environmental interpretation, the construction of tourist itineraries and walking tours, and the writing of guidebooks. Assessment: Essay (2000 words): 40% + Work diary: 30% + Examination (1 hour): 20% + Class participation: 10% |
