6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Caulfield, distance + Prerequisites: Completion of 48 Points at tertiary level. Social Work subjects are available only within the context of the Bachelor of Social Work degree, or with permission of the head of Social Work.

Synopsis: This subject is an introduction to the field of social work, its history, theory and knowledge base, ethics, and role in the human services. The application of social work research knowledge in tackling disadvantage is highlighted.

Assessment: Essay (3000 words): 66.6% + Class project (equivalent 1500 words): 33.3%
