Synopsis: An examination of how social, political and economic forces have influenced contemporary family policies in western societies. Comparisons will be made between western societies, and between capitalist and socialist societies. The focus will be on current debates about the future of the family and its alternatives.

Assessment: Essay (2500 words): 60% + Seminar paper (2000 words): 40%
