SCY2100Sociological Perspectives(ART)
Jan van Bommel 6 points + 3 hours per week + First (Caulfield) and second (Clayton) semesters + Prerequisites: A first-year sequence in Sociology or permission from Head of School + Prohibition: SCY3100 Synopsis: This subject aims to introduce students to some of the key theoretical perspectives in sociology. We begin with a critical account of the early divergent traditions of Marx, Weber, Durkheim and Parsons. We then move on to a critical analysis of the more contemporary perspectives of Foucault, Bourdieu, poststructuralism, feminism and sexualities. Assessment: Essay (2500 words): 50% + Class test (equivalent 2000 words): 50% |
