Sexuality, Gender and Social Relations

6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester - Clayton Campus + Second semester - Caulfield Campus + Prerequisite: A first-year sequence in Sociology or the permission of the head of school + Prohibition: SCY3031

Synopsis: This subject will investigate the meaning and construction of sexuality and gender in Western culture, using a range of theoretical approaches; explore the relationship between sexuality and gender; investigate the regulation and control of sexuality and gender through a variety of social institutions; explore a range of both traditional and controversial areas where sexuality, gender and society interact; and examine the cultural representation of gender and sexuality and the impacts of these representations.

Assessment: Essay (2500 words): 50% + Position Paper (1000 words): 25% + Test (1 hour, equiv. to 1000 words): 25%
