Raging Against the Machine: The Politics of Rock and Global Identities

Synopsis: This subject analyses rock music as a site of contested political and cultural space and fuses these issues with a new politics of identity. The subject interrogates how different subcultures associated around post-Cold War rock genres use music as a form of political communication to advance their political agendas and celebrate their lifestyles and histories.

Assessment: Essay (3000 words): 65% + open-book examination (1.5 hours - equivalent to 1500 words): 35%
