Making Performance: Theory and Practice

6 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: PER1040, PER1260 and a first-year sequence in Drama and Theatre Studies + Performing Arts subjects (PER) are available only within the context of the Bachelor of Performing Arts degree, or in special circumstances with permission from Head of Drama and Theatre Studies

Synopsis: This is a performance based subject which continues and develops the work of PER1040. It investigates the processes of making and theorising performance. Students will complete short performance exercises each exploring a particular element of performance, such as tempo, space, bodies etc, and then proceed to make one or more performance works drawing on the ideas and practices of the weekly sessions. There will be readings and discussions on the performance making strategies and theoretical positions of well known practitioners.

Assessment: Seminar/workshop participation: 30% + Contribution to performance project (equivalent 3000 words): 50% + Written document (1500 words): 20%
