Emergency 3: special populations

(MED)

3 points + semester two + Gippsland + Peninsula + Combination of: lectures; tutorials (some may be held at clinical sites); laboratories; clinical; individual study; and electronic learning activities. Total of 78hrs for the semester.

Synopsis: This unit will enable the student to develop the knowledge & skills necessary to effectively manage groups with special needs within the Emergency Dept. These groups include: victims of violence; clients/patients experiencing acute psychiatric illness; clients/patients with developmental disabilities; drug & /or alcohol addicted clients/ patients. The unit also focuses on the nursing management related to the client's/patient's family & significant others within the emergency environment. The development of skills which will enable the student to provide support for clients/patients, families, and significant others through crisis and grief/loss situations will be facilitated.
