Ethical Issues in Nursing

(MED)

Lorraine Walker (Gippsland), Geraldine Milton (Peninsula)

3 points + 3 hours per week + Semester 2 + On campus + Gippsland and Peninsula + Prerequisites: NUR1101, NUR1201.

Synopsis: An overview of those aspects of ethics that are relevant to current nursing practice. Students will critically examine a framework against which they may judge ethical standards of nursing practice in a variety of clinical contexts and indentify situations encountered by nurses where moral responsibility, moral distress, ethical dilemmas and conscientious objection frequently occur. Patient's rights, ethical theories and principles and ethical reasoning will be considered and applied to a variety of ethical dilemmas in clinical practice.

Assessment: Assignment: 60% + Examination: 40%
