MUM4180Chamber music history and repertoire(ART)
Carol Williams 12 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton Synopsis: This subject covers historical and analytical perspectives on major chamber works from the Middle Ages to the present, including the development of the sonata form, seen as the result of adapted vocal forms influenced by dance music. Also considered are the propriety of the modern concert hall for the presentation of the intimate chamber music model; the social origins of chamber music; and performance modes - amateur or professional. Assessment: Written (4 short assignments): 10% + Four short class papers of 15 minutes each: 10% + Essay (4000 words): 40% + Examination (3 hours): 40% |
