MID6612Nature of midwifery practice(MED)
Ms P David & Ms K Jacobs 6 points + First semester + Gippsland + Peninsula + 1 hour lecture, 1 hour tutorial with 7-8 hours of directed activities and private study per week over 16 weeks Synopsis: On completion of this unit, the student should be able to: describe the development of the midwifery role, from historical and current perspectives; describe the scope of midwifery practice; discuss legal and ethical considerations on midwifery practice; outline the roles and functions of professional organisations, locally, nationally, and globally, that have an impact on the delivery of midwifery services; describe the various models of midwifery care available for the childbearing woman; examine social and cultural implications on birthing; explore the professional responsibility of the midwife for ongoing professional development. Assessment: Presentation 25% + Written assignment 50% + Written assignment 25% |
