MGF1100Managerial communication(BUS)
Ms Nell Kimberley 6 points + One 1-hour lecture and one 2-hour tutorial per week + First and second semester Caulfield + First semester (Distance) Synopsis: Communication theory emphasising written and oral communication in relation to organisational, intrapersonal, interpersonal and group communication. Organisation-wide communication - communication models, flows, obstacles and current managerial issues. Intrapersonal communication - individual's self-concept, perception, tools for creating self-awarenesss. Interpersonal communication - importance of relationships in the work context, use of language, listening and nonverbal behaviour. Interpersonal contexts include negotiation, interviewing, feedback, coaching and counselling. Group communication - roles, leadership and facilitation, problem-solving, decision making and group creativity. Assessment: On campus: Individual persuasive presentation: 10% + Individual essay (2000 words): 20% + Individual essay (3000 words): 30% + Final examination (2 hours): 40%. Distance: Individual assignment (1000 words): 10% + Individual assignment (2000 words): 20% + Report (3000 words): 30% + Examination (2 hours): 40% |
