Synopsis: The nature of inquiry: investigation or exploration. Research design: surveys and questionnaires, scaling. Qualitative research. Naturalistic inquiry. Qualitative research applied to the health field. Gathering and analysing data: the in-depth interview. Analysing data: group processes. Ethics in research, and the writing of ethics committee proposals. Writing a research proposal. Review and evaluation. The above will include discussions on the reflective and reflexive researcher, and explore epistemological debates in research.

Assessment: Written research proposal, including an ethics committee proposal where applicable: 40% + Written critique and defence of the above research proposal: 60%
