MED3062Infectious diseases and medical genetics and clinical molecular biology(MED)
Dr J Martin (Microbiology) Synopsis: Infectious diseases examines the processes and organisms involved in infectious disease, the response of the individual to these processes and an introduction to the diagnosis of infection through practical work. At a community level, students examine the ways in which infectious diseases are spread and controlled, and their impact upon the community. Topics covered in medical genetics and clinical molecular biology include the molecular basis of inherited disease; the application of DNA technology to clinical medicine, genetic disorders, cytogenetics and genetic counselling. Assessment: Infectious diseases: Examination (2 hours): 90%; Practical component (attendance and participation): 10% + Medical genetics and clinical molecular biology: Examination (MCQ and short-answer) 1 hour: 100% |
