Dr M P VanDamme (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) Dr B J Canny (Physiology) Synopsis: The subject commences with a focus on the pituitary. Endocrinology continues with structure, function and regulation of major systems including adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid and calcium, pancreas and glucose regulation. Homeostatic mechanisms and pathological dysregulation are emphasised. Human Sexuality and Reproduction deals with topics including: male and female gonads and reproductive tracts; fertilisation; sex determination, sexual differentiation and abnormalities; fetal growth and development; contraception; infertility; antenatal diagnosis; ethics and abortion; puberty; male and female reproductive ageing; birth; homosexuality; STDs; AIDS; sexual assault.
