MCM5281Emergency medicine 1: Integrated systems of emergency care(MED) Offered subject to final approval Dr G Thomson & Dr P Rosengarten 6 points + semester 2 + MMC, Clayton + Alfred Synopsis: Candidates undertaking this subject will examine systems of delivery of emergency care and learn how to plan for the provision of emergency medicine services, including the staffing and physical requirements. The techniques learned will be applicable in a wide range of health systems. Emphasis will be placed on integration of emergency medicine with community-based practitioners, ambulance services, and hospital units. The use of information technology as an aid to service delivery in emergency medicine also will be explored. Assessment: One comprehensive plan for provision of emergency medicine services for a community of the candidate's choice approved by the supervisor: (50%) + One critique of a plan of an emergency department chosen by the supervisor: (25%) + One essay on a new application for information technology in emergency medicine: (25%) |
