MCM5206Ageing and physical activity(MED)
Professor B Workman & Dr G Savige 6 points + Second semester + Clayton Synopsis: This subject provides comprenhensive coverage of the benefits of physical activity for older people including an awareness of the importance of energy balance, bone function and balance, reversibility of sarcopenia, exercise as a disease modifier and in addition the role of exercise in well-being. Graduants will be able to identify and assess physical activity programs in older people, and subsequently modify according to needs, desires and safety. Physical activity programs in frail populations will be a particular target. Candidates will be able to promote exercise on both an individual and community basis, and will have the ability to initiate and implement strategies accordingly. Assessment: One examination: (50%) + One oral presentation: (25%) + One written report based on problem solving exercises: (25%) |
