MAT1097Quantitative analysis(SCI)
Dr Alistair Carr and Associate Professor Philip Rayment 6 points + Second semester + Three 1-hour lectures and two 1-hour tutorials per week + Gippsland/Distance + Prohibitions: MAT1060, MTH1210, ETX1642, GAS1751 + Note: This subject may not be credited towards a mathematics major or minor sequence in the BSc degree Synopsis: Topics covered include: The processes of modelling and analysis as a basis for decision making. Solution of linear systems, introduction to linear programming and its applications. Financial calculations relating to simple and compound interest, annuities, amortisation. Statistics: collection, presentation and interpretation of data; simple linear regression and correlation. Probability, random variables and their distributions, application to decision-making and simple inventory problems. Populations and samples: sampling distribution of the sample mean; interval estimation for a population mean and for the difference between two means. Assessment: Assignments and class test: 40% + Examination: (3 hours): 60% |
