Synopsis: The subject offers a comprehensive approach to family mediation in Australia, covering theoretical, pragmatic, legal and ethical issues associated with its practice. It is designed to provide practical skills to those wishing to engage in family mediation, as well as provoke a critical and informed evaluation of present practice. The subject emphasises practical issues associated with family mediation, and utilises role play and video instruction to assist in the development of students' mediation skills. Ethical issues for practising mediators are canvassed in some detail.

Assessment: Research assignment (3750 words): 50% + Participation in role play exercises: 40% + Written submission on strategy for one role play (no more than 750 words): 10%
