LAW5144Media law 506(LAW) Not offered in 2001 Mrs Sharon Rodrick 6 credit points + Three 1-hour lectures per week + Clayton + Corequisites: (recommended ) LAW4140, LAW5146 Synopsis: Laws governing the structure of the broadcasting and print media e.g. regulation of entry into these media, regulatory bodies, ownership and control restrictions, programming and content restrictions and complaints mechanisms. A selection of the laws governing the way in which the broadcasting and print media collect and disseminate news and information e.g. obtaining information about court proceedings, suppression orders, contempt of court, contempt of Parliament, obtaining access to information about government, reporting elections and other political material, trespass to land and nuisance, negligence, obscene publications. Assessment: Optional research paper (up to 2500 words): 25% + Final examination (2.25 hours or 3 hours): 75% or 100% |
