Synopsis: This subject covers laws relating to space activites, including major treaties, customary international law principles and national space laws and regulations. Topics include the legal regime of outer space and the celestial bodies, nationality and registration of space objects, legal status of commanders and crews, jurisdiction over activites in outer space, including the moon and international space station, liability for damage caused by space objects, telecommunications, remote sensing, launch services, environmental problems, the role of space organisations and the development of national space laws, including the Australian Space Activities Act.

Assessment: Optional written research assignment (5000 words): 50% + Take-home examination: 50% or 100%
