Synopsis: The theoretical concepts of librarianship and their application to professional practice. The literature of librarianship. Professional issues including the role of professional associations and career opportunities in the library and information services market. The major component of the subject is a three-week fieldwork placement.

Assessment: Diary notes of professional development/overview visits: 20% + Host supervisor0s report: 50% + Class presentation and report on fieldwork placement: 30%
