Introduction to Japanese sociolinguistics

6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Completion of, or concurrent enrolment, in Level B Japanese or equivalent + Prohibition: JPS3130

Synopsis: This subject introduces students to the study of the basic aspects of the Japanese language and system of communication, as well as intercultural communication. Topics include communication problems, speech acts, politeness, discourse structure.

Assessment: Critical review (2500 words): 50% + Examination (2 hours): 50%
