Theory and practice of translation B

6 points + 1.5 hours + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisite: Monash post-level D Japanese or equivalent

Synopsis: Students will gain an understanding of the basic theories of English-Japanese translation and practice in translating from a number of short texts. Common mistakes made in translating and various strategies for translating set texts are discussed.

Assessment: Weekly exercises: 30% + Mid-semester test (translation of text of approx. 1000 words within time limit): 20% + End-of-semester test (translation of a long set text): 50%
