Japanese language and society

12 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Completion of JAL4130 or JAL4590 or permission of instructor

Synopsis: Communication in native situations. Japanese language contact and language change in an Australian context. Theoretical approaches to studies of languages in contact, including network analysis, transference, code-switching and bilingualism.

Assessment: Essay (5000 words): 60% + Literature review (4000 words): 40%
