6 points + 4 hours per week + First semester + Gippsland and Distance Education + Distance Education students are required to attend a weekend school or consult the subject adviser + Prerequisite: INM2225 or equivalent

Synopsis: The language content of this subject is based on three broad themes: history/politics, mass media, and theatre. An introductory lecture on the weekly theme leads to two listening and speaking practicals which exploit forums, debate, and role play as a medium to trial and apply language and cultural knowledge. Intensive reading, grammar and translation skills are developed in a weekly tutorial.

Assessment: Oral presentation (10 minutes): 20% + Project proposal/evaluation (1500 words): 25% + Language task (250 words): 5% + Examination (2 hours): 50%
