HYM4002Researching the past: historical sources, method and interpretation(ART)
Mark Peel 6 points + 2-hour seminar per week + First semester + Clayton Synopsis: This subject provides an introduction to research methodologies in history, genres of historical writing, and debates about history as a form of knowledge and interpretation. In developing their own research project proposals, students focus on issues involved in the planning and writing of research projects, including identifying manageable topics, locating appropriate sources and evidence, developing bibliographies, critically analysing different kinds of texts and exploring different writing strategies. Assessment: Historiographical exercise (1000 words): 25% + Project proposal (3500 words): 75% |
