History of Australian Feminism

6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites : a first year sequence in History or Women's Studies + Prohibition: WMN2490, WMN3490, HSY3495

Synopsis: This subject explores the multiple meanings of the term 'Australian feminism' by examining a range of Australian ideas, organisations and activities which have been concerned with the interests of women. It looks at the history and development of ideas about women and women's organisations. It examines the ways in which questions of class and race have been involved in understandings of Australian feminism. It also looks at ways in which women have attempted to represent themselves in cultural, literary and political terms.

Assessment: Book review (500 words): 15% + one research essay (3,000 words): 50% + a one hour exam (1,000 words): 35%
