GSC3504Theories and research in history and politics(ART)
David Schmitt 6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Gippsland and distance + Prerequisites: Two of the following subjects: GSC2501, GSC2502, GSC2505, GSC2506, GSC2507, GSC2510, GSC2508, GSC2509, GSC2701 Synopsis: The subject introduces students to the methodologies of history and political science. It focuses on the development of a critical approach to research and method in history, political science and the social sciences. Students will develop the ability to apply a critical and analytical approach to the central questions in each of the discipline areas of objectivity, hypotheses, quantification, causation and explanation. Students are required to prepare a research paper on an original history or politics topic. The research essay will be based the use of primary sources, data bases, survey work and/or the use of statistical packages. Assessment: Project viability study (500 words): 10% + Theory essay (1500 words): 30% + Research essay (2500 words): 60% |
