Harry Ballis and Marianne Robinson 6 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Hong Kong Synopsis: This subject introduces the discipline of sociology with a particular focus on issues of health, illness and health care. The subject covers the social construction of health and illness, resource implications of providing health care for a large and diverse population and includes a case study on death and dying. Throughout the subject the emphasis is on demonstrating the relevance of sociology to nursing. Material is drawn from Australia and other Western countries and invites comparisons and contrasts with Hong Kong. Assessment: Class test: 30% + Assignment: 30% + Examination (2 hours): 40% |
