GRS2003Reproductive health services and policy(MED)
Ms J Wainer 6 points + 6 weeks (two 1-hour lectures, 1-hour tutorial, 2-hour journal review presentation, 4-hour seminar each week + MMC + Second semester Synopsis: A couple's relationship, cultural background, education and access to reproductive counselling all affect the possibilities of forming a family. The availability of family planning, genetic screening, prenatal diagnosis programs and education programs in different cultures are studied. Australian cross-cultural issues and sensitivities, the influence of changing gender roles and the mechanisms available for existing policies to change in response to the medical breakthroughs and changing social needs will also be explored. Existing polices and the allocation of resources in the health sector to reproduction and genetic services will also be covered. Assessment: Open-book written examination (1.5 hours): 50% + Presentation of journal review: 20% + Assignment (3000 words): 30% |
