GPS3212Geophysics: Global dynamics(SCI)
Professor Jim Cull 6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour practical per week + 12 weeks lecture/practical coursework + Second semester + Clayton + Prohibitions: GPS3011, GPS3022 Synopsis: Physical properties of the earth and our methods of measuring them on a global scale. Topics covered include global seismology and the internal structure of the earth, earthquakes, thermal evolution of the earth, plate tectonics and the physical properties of lithosphere and mantle, elastic flexure of the lithosphere, post-glacial uplift and earth rotation. Assessment: Practical assignments: 30% + Examination (3 hours): 70% |
