GES2760Re-mapping Cultural Geographies(ART)
Dr Mariastella Pulvirenti 6 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: a first-year sequence in geography or permission from Head of School Synopsis: Students will learn current geographical understandings of culture as a process made up of everyday beliefs, languages and practices though which people come to understand their world. It will show cultural processes do not just happen in, but create spaces, places, landscapes, regions and environments. It will show how spaces and places produce and reproduce cultural processes. Linkages will be made to policy. The subject is divided into five sections which cover the evolution of cultural geography, and cultural geographies of capital, belonging, nature and identity. Assessment: Essay (2000 words): 40% + Two tutorial papers (750 words each): 20% each + Examination (1 hour): 20% |
