L F Smith 6 points + 4 hours per week + First and Summer semester + Gippsland, distance + Prerequisites: GCO2815 and GCO2813 + Prohibitions: COT3031 Synopsis: Introduction to distributed/client-server systems. Client and server operating systems. Network operating system features to support C/S. Middleware: RPC,MOM,TP monitors. SQL database servers. Federated databases and Middleware. Data warehouses. Client-server transactions. Client server and the Internet. Mobile database systems. Internet database systems. Distributed objects, CORBA, DCOM, OpenDOC. Distributed systems management, client server tools. Stored procedures, functions and triggers as tool for client server development. WWW CGI scripts using perl. DB access by WWW, JDBC and java applets. 32bit OS required. Acess to the university's computer systems is compulsory. Assessment: Assignments (2): 40% + Examination (3 hours): 60% |
