GCO3818Software Environments(IT) Proposed to be offered next in 2002 Douglas Thomson Gippsland and by distance education + First semester + Prerequisites: GCO2812 + Prohibitions: GCO2814, CFR1140, COT1140, CSC2020, CSE2302, RDT2141 Synopsis: The environment in which software is developed and used needs to be understood in order to make the most effective use of the capabilities of the underlying operating system. Students should also appreciate that Windows is not the only operating system, understand the relative merits of Windows compared to alternative operating systems such as Linux, and should be capable of installing different operating systems as and when appropriate. Assessment: Assignments worth 30% of the total subject assessment. The assignments will test all subject objectives, but will focus on the issues involved in installing and using an alternative operating system on a PC. A 3-hour closed book examination worth 70%. The examination will test all subject objectives. |
