UNIX systems programming

6 points + 4 hours per week + First semester + Gippsland, distance + Prerequisites: GCO2817 + Prohibitions: CFR3111

Synopsis: Systems programming techniques and system software tools. Using existing systems software: shell scripts, Perl, filters, debugging and other tools. Developing UNIX systems software in C: making operating system calls, techniques used in common systems programs. Applications in web CGI programming. Access to the university's computer systems through an Internet service provider is compulsory for distance education students.

Assessment: Assignments: 30% + Examination (3 hours): 70%
