EUL3950Literary theory and critical practice in the European languages(ART)
J. Browitt and P. Anderson 6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Completion of 12 points of study at third-year level in semester one in one of the language programs offered by the School of European Languages and Cultures. Synopsis: After completion of this subject the students will: have gained a familiarity with a wide range of contemporary critical and theoretical writings from Europe and the Americans; have developed an ability to read theoretical writings both in English and the language of the program in which they are enrolled (ie. French, German, Greek, Italian, Russian, Slavic, Spanish); be able to use different approaches and methods in the analysis of works of literature; be able to thoroughly analyse literary and other texts and to present their findings in a coherent manner. Assessment: Reading report (1000 words in English):20% + Seminar presentation (1000 words): 20% + Final essay (2500 words in English): 60% |
