ETX2121Data analysis in business(BUS)
Dr Ann Maharaj and Ms Gerrie Roberts 6 points + Two 1-hour lectures, one 1-hour tutorial per week + First and second semester, Caulfield + First semester, Peninsula + Distance + Prerequisites: ETX1100 or ETC1000 or a credit pass in ETX1102 + Prohibitions: ETX2111, ETC1010, ETX2161, ETX2171 Synopsis: Further develops statistical concepts from ETX1640 (ETX1100) and their application to business sectors such as finance and accounting. Sources of data and sampling techniques. Confidence intervals and hypothesis testing both for single populations and between populations to identify significant findings with applications to accounting and finance, risk modelling. Commonly used modelling methods in industry - simple and multiple regression, analysis of time series in financial markets. Excel software will be used. Emphasis throughout is on interpretation of results that provides insight and value to management. Assessment: Assignment and test: 40% + Final examination (2 hours): 60% |
