ENV2022Environmental sampling and monitoring(SCI)
Dr David Dunkerley with staff from several contributing departments 6 points + Two 1-hour lectures per week + 36 hours of practical work, mainly in the form of field work + Second semester + Clayton + Available to Bachelor of Environmental Science Students + ENV1011 and ENV1022 or permission + Prohibition: ENV3002 Synopsis: Introduction to quantitative methods in environmental monitoring; types of environmental impacts; populations and sampling. Origins, types of measurement of chemical pollution. Biological monitoring. Atmospheric monitoring and analysis. Micro-meteorological measurements. Gaseous and particulate matter in the atmosphere. Batch sampling and continuous methods of air quality monitoring. Soils and sediments. Surface and groundwater hydrochemistry. Surface water hydrology. Manual and automated sampling and in-situ analysis techniques. Quality assurance issues. Assessment: Examination: 50% + Practical class reports and field report: 50% |
