ENH2130Literature and opposition, 1660-1800(ART)
H Love 6 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton, Caulfield + Prerequisites: A first-year sequence in English or permission + Prohibition: ENH3130 Synopsis: The subject is designed to introduce students to some major English texts of the Augustan (Enlightenment) era, selected to illustrate the intellectual, political and gender conflicts of the period. Special attention will be given to the relationship of writing to the emerging print media through a study of prose and verse pamphleteering and a group of `best-sellers'. Assessment: First essay (1500 words): 30% + Second essay (2000 words): 45% + Test (1 hour): 25% |
