Effective Writing 2: Professional Writing

6 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton, Caulfield + Prohibitions: ENH1240

Synopsis: In lectures and weekly workshops students will improve the effectiveness of the writing skills relevant to a range of professional forms of writing, in a variety of vocational contexts, and theories of genre which inform different writing practices. The seminar-workshops will provide opportunities for writing practice and collaborative revisions. The different conventions governing such professional writing genres as newspaper interviews, articles, book and performance reviewing, report writing, business correspondence, persuasive writing in advertising and writing for the internet will be analysed, discussed and practised in a series of writing projects.

Assessment: Essay (2000 words): 30% + Workshop project (1500 words): 25% + Review (1000 words): 20% + Folio presentation: 25%
