Theories of intervention

12 points + 3 hours per week + Second Semester + Clayton campus + Prerequisite: GED1811 or EDF6601 Except by permission of the Lecturer in charge, students will be required to have completed

Synopsis: This unit will provide the student with the opportunity to review the relevant literature and to be able to critically appraise and select appropriate intervention procedures and syllabus for specific behavioural areas in children and adults. The course will cover the theoretical bases and details of procedure in selected areas of intervention and will critically evaluate and highlight major advantages and disadvantages of each approach

Assessment: Critical review of an individual intervention technique (500 words): 20% + Critical essay reviewing the literature in depth on a selected approach to intervention which will include review of the theory and evaluation of intervention methods based upon it (4000 words): 60% + Journal of practicum exercises (1000 words): 10% + Essay on ethical and professional issues in selected intervention procedures (500 words): 10%
