EDF6322Teaching music: policy and practice(EDU) Proposed to be offered next in 2002 Dr J Southcott/Dr R Smith & Dr G Hurworth 12 credit points + First semester + Peninsula (Off-campus mode). Synopsis: Module 1: Policy. This module examines the historical development and philosophical bases of school music education in Australia, current trends in Australian arts and music education policy and comparative perspectives drawn from international music education policy and curriculum. Module 2: Practice. In this modules students will consider the implications for the practice of teaching music of current research in three areas: (1) the teaching of musical composition in the classroom; (2) the teaching of non-Western music; and (3) assessment in music education Assessment: Module 1: Policy - Web-based tasks 20% + 3,000 word essay 30%. Module 2: Practice - Web-based tasks 20% + 3,000 word essay 30%. |
