EDF5454Methods and practice of teaching mathematics A(EDU) Proposed to be offered next in 2002 Dr B Clarke (Clayton) + Ms E Buckingham (Gippsland) 6 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton (on campus) + Gippsland (off campus) + Prerequisites: Mathematics minor Synopsis: The unit will be based on a number of broad objectives which will enable successful students to (a) broaden their awareness of mathematics as a unit; (b) develop a knowledge of teaching styles and methods in mathematics; (c) explore the needs of various groups of children; (d) develop a knowledge of the resources available to a teacher of mathematics; (e) learn essential parts of school mathematics not previously studied. Assessment: Teaching round observation and reflection 30% (1000 words) + Content area analysis 70% (3000 words) + Student participation in the unit is vital either on-campus or via the on-line forum. |
