EDF5436Methods and practice of teaching English A(EDU) Proposed to be offered next in 2002 Dr B Doecke (Clayton) + Dr P Richardson (Gippsland) 6 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton (on-campus)/Gippsland (off-campus) + Prerequisites: Bachelor of Arts with a major study in English or linguistics, a minor study in English or linguistics is essential. Synopsis: This is the first unit in a sequence of two units which will develop student capabilities in developing appropriate curriculum and pedagogy in the key learning area of English curriculum. Students are introduced to an account of the development of English curriculum in secondary education. Through an examination of the National Statement and the various State-based curricula, students are familiarised with current developments in English literacy education. As a precursor to school placement for practice teaching, students will be provided with opportunities to begin to develop skills in lesson planning, curriculum planning, teaching strategies and procedures.
